I've been using hosted web services for several years now. I have had experience with just a few web hosting companies. One of them has been great. Another of them was awful.

My last hosting company was Startlogic. I basically went with them because they were cheap and I didn't know anything else. They were good for a while, but soon I noticed some key problem with their services:

email was down (at lest momentarily)almost every week
my website was down almost as often as email
the "backend" of the control pannel was terribly slow
slow downloads and uploads to and from my website
responses from technical support would take 24-28 hours
it was almost impossible to get someone on the phone 1/2 - 2 hour hold times

I eventually decided to make the switch to another company - as long a process that is when you are hosting several website, domain names, and email accounts on your hosting plan. I chose JustHost after reading several reviews online.

JustHost has been just about the inverse of Startlogic's shortcomings. I have been using them for almost a year now and:

I have never noticed email to be down
I have never noticed my website to be down
the backend of the control panel (cpanel) runs fast
Downloads from my website average 5 mbs
Responses by email support usually come within an hour
